Nexic Discovery™ 7.0

Nexic Discovery is an advanced architecture designed to facilitate the searching, saving and reviewing of GroupWise information.

Search. Information can be searched for by using our powerful GroupWise search engine process, or by using our Discovery Client application, which is very similar to the GroupWise Windows client. Our search engine supports searching by:

Text or phrases in subject, message, place, sender, recipients, and within certain attachment types
Item type, source, and attributes
GroupWise categories
Specific folders or an entire folder structure
Key words to include or exclude or a combination of both
Delivery options based on distribution lists
Date ranges, including days before, after and within.

Save. Information can be copied, moved, forwarded or exported to various output formats including:

Standards-based XML files, encrypted or not, to be stored on DVD or other storage media - Includes high speed, index-based search capabilities.

Forwarded to SMTP servers for compatibility with numerous archiving or document management products.

Oracle database for a multi-year, high volume email retention solution.

Additional SQL databases, and output formats are being added.

Review. Information in live accounts, offline XML files, or databases can be viewed using our Discovery Client, providing many of the features found in the GroupWise Windows client. As a result of using standards-based XML output and SQL databases, exported information can be viewed or managed by many different applications. A web interface to the SQL databases is being added for client-less auditing capabilities.

Restore. Using our Quick Restore technology, end-users have the ability to restore archived messages from their offline archive system (SQL database, XML, etc.) or restore from an offline GroupWise post office. This offline post office restoration capability also integrates with the popular GWAVA Reload disaster recovery and backup product.

Discovery 7 is the result of many years of experience in working with GroupWise and exporting information. This experience has resulted in an architecture that is unequaled in the GroupWise product market, which runs on Windows, NetWare and Linux.

The core concept to understand with Discovery is the “process.” Nexic Discovery is designed to facilitate the creation, management, and execution of various different process tasks related to GroupWise. The term “process” is used to define specific tasks, like exporting messages from several accounts to an SQL database. This would be called an Export Process.

Discovery’s architecture is broken into three main modules: Console, Monitor, and Processes.

Console
The Discovery Console application is used to manage and configure the various processes. Console runs independent of any other Discovery module. Console will allow an administrator to create and edit process configuration files, as well as allow them to start and stop processes.

  Discovery Console Status Window

Monitor
Discovery Monitor is a small application that runs in the Windows system tray. Monitor is independent from all other Discovery modules and is not required to be running in order for a process to run. Monitor’s purpose is to start and stop a process, and to monitor its execution.

Processes

Discovery processes are fine-tuned components with no user interface. They operate independent of any other Discovery module. Their purpose is to perform a specific function, like exporting messages in a specific format. Processes can run locally, on the Windows workstation, or they can run remotely on Windows, NetWare, or Linux machines.

Other key components to the Discovery architecture are:

Investigation Control
In order to connect to GroupWise accounts without having to know the password, you need to create an encrypted Nexic key file. This key file is created by an administrator using Nexic Investigation Control application. Nexic key files control who has unlimited, trusted access to a GroupWise account. Specific rights and capabilities can be granted or removed using a key file. As a result of Nexic’s extensive experience and many years working with GroupWise, the encrypted key file and its enhanced security capabilities are unparalleled in the GroupWise market. Security is paramount when it comes to granting user access to GroupWise information. This encrypted key file is required by several Discovery components in order to connect to GroupWise accounts.

  Investigation Control Select Users

Discovery Client
Discovery Client is a multipurpose Windows application where an auditor or end-user can view archived GroupWise messages. The user interface is designed to look and act very similar to the GroupWise Windows client. Discovery Client can connect to SQL databases, or read offline exported XML files. With the Discovery Forensics module, the Discovery Client also allows investigators to connect to live GroupWise accounts without the end user knowing their email had been searched, opened, or printed. Discovery Client can view one or many accounts at the same time, and the user can pick the GroupWise 6.5 or a 7.0 color and icon scheme to use.

When connecting to database or online accounts, audit trail capabilities can be enabled to track who accessed an account and what they did while viewing the account. How long a user has access to an account, and if they have rights to view recipients, save or print messages, can all be controlled by the administrator.
